Initial assessment

Static: A stationary assessment regarding conformation, posture, muscle symmetry, anatomy and hoof/paw conformation. This can provide an indication of how the animal may move and why movement is performed in a particular way.
Dynamic: Completed with the horse/dog walking and trotting in a straight line on a flat, non slip surface. Movement will be assessed alongside behaviour and temperament. Additional movements for horses may be asked for, including turning, backing up and lunging/ridden.

Spinal and neurological: This will only be performed if prior information provides the need to do so.
Palpation and range of motion

Part of assessment.

Palpation: Feeling of muscle, tissues, tendons, ligaments and structures. This will highlight areas of tight or underdeveloped muscle, pain areas, heat and inflammation to evaluate regions needing physio intervention.
